Commemoration Event Honouring Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar
“Cultivation of mind should be the ultimate aim of human existence” - Dr Ambedkar
The Cambridge Buddhist Centre and the BAMS (Buddhist Ambedkarite Maitri Sangha) group invite you to join us in paying tribute to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s legacy on his death anniversary, reflecting on his contributions to social justice, equality, and the revival of Buddhism.
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was a pioneering advocate for social justice, championing the rights of Dalits and marginalised communities in India. He embraced Buddhism as a means to promote equality and liberation from the oppressive caste system. Ambedkar's conversion to Buddhism in 1956, alongside millions of his followers, was a significant moment in Indian history. He saw Buddhism as a philosophy rooted in principles of equality, non-violence, and social justice, aligning with his vision for a society free from discrimination and exploitation.
Guest Speakers: Cllr. Baiju Thittala, Mayor of Cambridge (learn more), and Dhammachari Vidyaruchi.
The event will feature a panel discussion, Q&A, cultural performances, and light refreshments. All are warmly welcome to attend this meaningful tribute!
