Suvana Cohousing: Sangha at your Doorstep

We are having an “info session” about Suvana Cohousing, open to all who want to learn more about the project. This session will include several short presentations to answer the following questions, as well as Q&A to answer any additional questions.

- Why choose cohousing?
- Where is the potential site? What is the vision for this site?
- What are the next steps for Suvana?
- How can I get involved?

Cohousing offers a way of living together in a community with the flexibility to accommodate both individuals and families of all shapes and sizes. Residents each have their own personal house or flat, but share some spaces (and objects) as a way of building community and encouraging eco-friendly living.

Suvana is a special kind of cohousing project: a Buddhist Cohousing project. Most of us who come to the Buddhist Centre know the power of Sangha -- what would it be like to integrate the practice of Sangha more fully into our everyday lives?

We’re envisioning a multi-generational community inhabiting around 30 dwellings. There will be a mixture of homes and flats, with a common house and common outdoor spaces. If there is enough interest, one of the houses could be used to create a shared Buddhist community, similar to ones that already exist in Cambridge.

The buildings that make up Suvana do not exist yet! We are working with a developer and architect (both of whom have experience with cohousing) to build this from scratch. This gives us an amazing opportunity to create something that fits our vision and needs. Due to exciting developments in the last few months, we have a potential site slightly north of Cambridge, which is set to be built and ready to move into within the next 3-4 years.

You don’t need to call yourself a Buddhist to be part of Suvana! It’s for all people who want to live on the basis of the Buddhist values of kindness, generosity, simplicity, truthfulness and mindfulness.

NOTE: This event is taking place on the same day as a Clothing Swap Fundraiser. The clothing swap is not affiliated with Suvana, but it’s a great way to get in the spirit of community living! It will be taking place all day in the CBC foyer. Feel free to come early and have a browse, or donate some pieces from your own wardrobe.
